Project Background

This project was delivered by Global Container (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. for a client based on the South Island of New Zealand, a region famous for its vast pastureland and ranches. The client planned to build a multifunctional modular house on their ranch that could serve as field accommodation for herders, a temporary office, and an outdoor leisure space with scenic views.

New Zealand's open countryside offers little natural shelter: strong winds occur frequently throughout the year, ultraviolet radiation is intense, and rainfall is abundant. Locally built houses involve high labor costs and long construction periods. After comparing multiple options, the client chose a prefabricated modular container house with an integrated terrace to achieve fast, cost-effective delivery.

Customer Pain Points

• Open ranch terrain means frequent strong winds; ordinary terrace frames and railings lack structural strength and pose wind-safety risks.
• Outdoor exposure to sun and rain causes steel frames and wall panels to age, fade and rust, resulting in high maintenance costs.
• Limited on-site facilities in the farming area; the client wanted simplified installation procedures to reduce expensive local labor.
• Both an indoor living space and a wide integrated terrace were required for outdoor relaxation and scenic viewing.

Customized Solution: 6m × 6m Container House with Terrace

Global Container (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. customized a 6m × 6m integrated container house with a terrace for the client:

• Reinforced wind-resistant structure: widened fully wrapped terrace with dark gray high-strength galvanized steel frame, one-piece formed terrace railings and overall wind-resistant reinforcement, perfectly suited to the windy open-ranch conditions of New Zealand.
• Weather-resistant wood-grain cladding: exterior walls use wood-grain decorative panels with UV resistance, moisture resistance and anti-corrosion performance, so they will not fade or age easily after long-term outdoor use.
• Bright indoor space: double glass sliding door at the entrance and side viewing glass windows provide transparent, well-lit interiors.
• All-weather terrace: anti-corrosion deck flooring with an extended roof covering the full terrace area, so the terrace can be used normally even on rainy days.

Most of the prefabrication was completed in the factory in China, and the house was packed and shipped in modular sections. After arriving at the New Zealand port, only simple on-site assembly was needed, greatly reducing the high cost of local labor.

Project Results

The container house was successfully delivered to the New Zealand ranch and assembled. The spacious terrace blends naturally with the grassland scenery. The house now serves both as permanent accommodation for ranch management staff and as a leisure holiday cottage. The reinforced terrace frame has withstood local strong-wind conditions, and the wood-grain exterior walls remain beautiful and durable. The delivered result fully met the client's expectations.

The client was highly satisfied with the finished house and plans to promote this terrace-equipped modular container house as a flagship product to local farmers and tourism/guesthouse operators across New Zealand.
