Detachable Container House for Saudi Worker Accommodation — Compliant Camp Housing

Saudi Arabia's giga-project portfolio needs an estimated 1.5–2 million construction workers at peak. Since 2025 the National Program for the Development of Collective Housing has required commercial establishments with 20 or more workers to hold a licence for collective accommodation — and 1,360 licences covering around a million workers had been issued by September 2026. Worker housing is a regulated product category now, not a shed at the back of site.

Design the room grid around the rules, then pick a supplier

The updated standards are specific: at least 4 m² of space per worker bed, housing sited at least 5 km from family residential areas, and free internet on site. Those numbers decide your room grid before any supplier is involved. A 5,950 * 3,000 mm module takes a four-bed room at 4.46 m² per bed — above the minimum, with circulation left over.

Because modules are 3 m deep and 5.95 m long, single-room blocks, ablution blocks and mess halls all run on the same frame and the same bolt kit. You are buying one system rather than three.

Why detachable, not fixed prefab

Camp populations ramp and then demobilise. Detachable modules come apart and re-erect on the next package. The parts that decide whether third and fourth assembly cycles are realistic are the 160 * 160 * 160 mm galvanised corner blocks and Dacromet carriage bolts — a low-end frame with black-iron corner blocks will not survive them, and the corner is where corrosion starts.

Freight

One 40HQ carries 17–18 sets — roughly 303–321 m² of accommodation in a single container. Shipping the same units assembled would take 17–18 containers.

Desert specification

  • Heat — specify PU/PIR or rock wool rather than plain EPS; the roof is the part of the envelope that matters.
  • Dust — no exposed bolts at the corner connections, so there is less for fine sand to sit in and corrode.
  • Corrosion — 60 g double-sided zinc is standard, up to 300 g available for coastal or high-dust sites.
  • Mixed blocks — panel thickness, door and window counts and bottom tube quantities are all adjustable, so ablution and mess blocks are configured rather than improvised.

FAQ

How many workers per module?

Four beds at 4.46 m² per bed in a single 5,950 * 3,000 mm module — above the 4 m² minimum.

Can the camp be dismantled and moved to the next package?

Yes. That is the practical difference between a detachable module and a fixed prefab building.

How long is assembly?

Modules are bolted, not welded, using hand tools — no site power or welding plant required.

Request a camp layout and loading plan

Send worker numbers, room standard, site location and destination port. You will usually have a layout drawing and a 40HQ loading plan within 24 working hours.
