Chile 20ft Double-Wing Expandable Container House: UV & Seismic-Resistant Modular Units for Desert Camps
News Detail

Introduction

Chile's northern desert region is characterized by year-round intense sunlight and dramatic temperature swings that can exceed 30°C between day and night. To meet such demanding conditions, we have developed a customized 20ft double-wing expandable container house featuring a series of specialized process upgrades. From UV-resistant exterior cladding and high-density insulation to seismic-rated steel structure and off-grid utility systems, every detail has been engineered for reliable long-term performance in the Atacama environment.

Climate-Adapted Exterior & Insulation

Fluorocarbon-Coated Galvanized Steel Panels

The exterior walls adopt fluorocarbon-sprayed galvanized steel sheets. Compared with conventional painted panels, the fluorocarbon coating delivers significantly better UV resistance and anti-aging performance, making it fully suitable for the high-intensity solar radiation of the Atacama Desert. It effectively slows down panel fading, powdering and aging, extending the service life of the unit and reducing maintenance frequency.

80mm Flame-Retardant PU Insulation Core

The wall cavity is filled with high-density 80mm flame-retardant polyurethane insulation, applied through a seamless single-piece foaming process. This provides stable thermal insulation performance that effectively blocks the extreme outdoor temperature differences, alleviating daytime indoor overheating and nighttime low-temperature frost issues while lowering the energy consumption of temperature-control equipment.

Sloped Roof with Waterproof Membrane

The roof is designed with a slope-guided drainage structure combined with high-density waterproof membrane, adapting to the short but intense rain events of the Chilean winter. This minimizes water accumulation and leakage risks, protecting the interior and structure over time.

Seismic & Structural Engineering for Chile

Given that Chile sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, the unit adopts an integrated one-piece galvanized steel skeleton. The main beams use thickened 80×160mm square steel tubes, and the chassis is fully welded with reinforced joints, matching Chilean local seismic load standards. The structure can withstand common earthquake shaking scenarios, while anti-loosening interlocking lock buckles reduce structural loosening and deformation caused by vibration.

Adjustable Support Feet for Unpaved Terrain

For remote mining sites without hardened ground, the unit is equipped with adjustable galvanized support legs that adapt to sand, gravel slopes and uneven terrain with height differences. No poured concrete pile foundation is required, and stable placement can be achieved quickly on arrival.

Space, Logistics & Functional Layout

Standard Shipping Size & 40% Higher Loading Efficiency

In its folded transport state, the Chile-export 20ft double-wing expandable container house conforms to standard sea container dimensions, perfectly matching South American ocean freight and overland truck transport regulations. Container loading efficiency increases by 40%, significantly reducing cross-border logistics costs.

36m² Usable Space with Four Functional Zones

With symmetric expansion on both sides, the unit reaches a usable area of up to 36m² after full extension. The interior features a modular finished layout that can be precisely divided into four functional zones:

  • Independent office area
  • Single-person sleeping area
  • Storage and equipment area
  • Private bathroom area

Off-Grid Utility Systems

The interior is pre-installed with a Chile-standard 220V electrical system, waterproof visible and concealed wiring, and anti-electric-shock switches and sockets. Integrated piping for water purification and sewage collection is provided, making the unit suitable for field operations in mining areas without municipal water and electricity supply.

Deployed Applications

This customized expandable container house has already been deployed at lithium mining exploration camps in northern Chile and outdoor scientific research stations in the southern lake district. Through refined local adaptation engineering, it resolves the pain points of container usage across Chile's diverse regional scenarios.

Future Development Plans

We will continue to iterate on a Chile-specific product family, launching standardized, high-specification and minimalist versions to serve different needs including short-term mining projects, long-term scientific research and light-luxury lakeside guesthouses, further deepening our presence in the Chilean market.
