One Module, Three Times the Space: The Expandable Container House

Most housing problems on a project site are not about design. They are about time, access and freight. The expandable container house answers all three: it travels on a 20ft container footprint, arrives with the interior already finished, and opens on site into a 36 m2 habitable unit in about ten minutes.

The Numbers That Matter

What you are buyingValue
Folded footprint5800 x 2200 mm, standard 20ft handling
Living area after opening36 m2, about three times the folded area
Time to be weather tight10 to 15 minutes, 3 to 4 workers, no crane hire
Freight efficiency2 units per 20ft, 4 units per 40HQ

Scenarios Where It Pays Back Fast

A mining or infrastructure camp that grows in phases. Phase one needs 40 beds this month, phase two may need 80 next quarter. Because the unit is finished before it ships, beds are available the day the crane lifts it into place, and the same units can be pulled out and re-erected at the next campsite instead of written off.

A resort or glamping site with a planning restriction. The expanded unit gives the look of a finished cabin, panoramic windows and a proper bathroom, without a construction programme on the plot. Sites that are only licensed for temporary structures can open rooms in a single season.

A site office with a narrow access road. Because the unit ships folded, a standard truck can deliver it to a plot where a 6.3 m wide building could never be driven in.

Emergency or relief deployment. A habitable family unit is handed over on the day of arrival, which is rarely possible with any other construction method.

Where the Cost Saving Actually Comes From

  • Freight: you pay for a 20ft slot, not for 36 m2 of enclosed air.
  • Labour: no site carpentry, no plastering, no electrical installation on site.
  • Programme: no curing time, no weather delays, occupancy measured in hours.
  • Asset life: galvanised frame and ISO corner castings allow repeated relocation across projects.

Fit for Climate, Fit for Market

Wall and roof panels can be specified in 50 or 75 mm with EPS, rock wool or PU core according to the destination climate, and units can carry CE marking, ISO 9001 factory documentation and third-party inspection on request, with wind and snow load calculations for the target market.

Tell us your destination port, how many beds or rooms you need and the layout you prefer, and we will come back with a drawing and quotation, normally within one working day.
