Expandable Container House: 30-Minute Setup Triples Floor Space to 72 Square Metres
The Expandable Principle
An expandable container house ships in a standard container footprint and unfolds on site to create two to three times the original floor area. Global Container (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. builds the range around a hydraulic or manual sliding expansion system, so the same unit can be folded, transported, reopened and refolded repeatedly without loss of structural stability.
In transport mode the unit complies with normal container dimensions, allowing one to six sets per sea shipment. In working mode the largest configurations open to 72 m², enough for a complete one-bedroom apartment with living room, kitchen and bathroom.

Why the Expansion Mechanism Matters
Conventional container conversions are limited by the internal width of the box: a 20ft unit gives roughly 14 m² and cannot be widened. An expandable unit solves the geometry problem by shipping the side modules folded flat against the core, then sliding them out to create a full-width room. The floor, ceiling and wall panels deploy together, and the joint is sealed with the same insulated panel system used elsewhere in the envelope.
- No site cutting: the building opens as a finished assembly, so there is no welding, framing or insulation work on site.
- Repeatable: units can be closed and moved to a new project at the end of a contract.
- Fast: a habitable unit is available on the day of delivery, not weeks later.
- Scalable: multiple units can be joined to form dormitory blocks, clinics or classrooms.
Typical Applications
The range is used for mining and construction accommodation, emergency shelter and disaster relief, remote clinics, site canteens, sales suites and resort overflow. The 72 m² maximum configuration is particularly suited to family accommodation on long-duration projects, where a single-bedroom apartment layout with a proper kitchen and bathroom materially improves retention.
Climate and Compliance
Q235 hot-galvanised steel provides corrosion resistance in coastal and humid environments, while 75 mm or 100 mm EPS or rock wool panels deliver the required thermal and fire performance. Units can be supplied with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification, CE marking, SGS inspection, fireproof certification, wind resistance test reports, and electrical components to CE, IEC or UL standards.
Ordering
The expandable range is available from a minimum order of one set, with a quoted delivery time of 30 days and T/T payment terms. Buyers should specify the required unfolded area, climate, occupancy and destination port so that the correct panel specification and loading plan can be confirmed.
